CHAMBERLAIN Transport has gained two major new contracts with a leading rail maintenance and repair company, Railcare, and media giants Associated Newspapers.
The three-year contract with Railcare involves managing the distribution of all rail components from the company's headquarters at Wolverton, in Milton Keynes.
A five-year contract with Associated Newspapers has also been secured by Bedfords Transport, for the primary distribution of all Daily Mail newspapers in the UK, as a partner in this contract Chamberlain Transport will look after a large part of this distribution.
Simon Chamberlain, managing director of Chamberlain Transport, said: "We are delighted to have won both these important contracts. Despite the current difficult economic climate we are continuing to win new business and deliver a high quality service.
"Both of these organisations are major blue chip companies that require a flexible and responsive service to meet their needs quickly. Our extensive experience means we are able to meet these demands and go the extra mile, if needs be, to make sure deliveries get to where they need to be on time."
The contract with Railcare has seen a dedicated onsite manager from Chamberlain set up to oversee the distribution of all rail components from Railcare's headquarters at Wolverton, in Milton Keynes.
Simon Chamberlain said: "Chamberlain Transport has worked with the rail industry for many years and we understand that time is a key issue and the window of opportunity for repairs to be made is often a small one - this makes the delivery of materials extremely important."
As part of the contract, Chamberlain Transport has also provided a specially designed vehicle allowing the company to make deliveries more efficiently.
The vehicle was ordered for its versatility, boasting features such as a retractable cover to protect goods during transportation and a four-ton crane for loading and unloading powerpacks, wheelsets and bogies. A suspension lowering device also enables the vehicle to access sites such as rail yards which have height restrictions.
Rob Baxter, Railcare managing director at Wolverton, said: "The contract with Chamberlain Transport re-enforces Railcare's commitment to providing its customers with the highest levels of service and delivery."
The contract with Associated Newspapers means Chamberlain Transport is now one of a number of partners working with Bedfords Transport to look after the distribution of all Daily Mail newspapers printed at the Associated Newspapers sites in Didcot and Stoke-on-Trent.
Simon Chamberlain said: "Both Bedfords and ourselves have over 30 years experience of delivering newsprint which put us in a strong position to win this contract.
"When all of Associated Newspapers titles were printed in the South of England and distributed across the country via rail we were contracted as the emergency transport hauler. This meant whenever there was an issue with the primary distribution network we would be asked to step in at very short notice and ensure the publications reached their destinations on time and no sales were missed."
The partnership between Bedfords and Chamberlain's on this comes as part of a longstanding working relationship, with both companies being founder members of the Palletforce network and members of the Transport Association.
