HRH The Princess Royal Visits Palletforce HUB

TED Chamberlain found himself in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal this week - when he was one of the honoured guests at the opening of the new Palletforce distribution Hub.

Ted, who is Chairman of Crewe-based Chamberlain Transport, was among a group of transport leaders from across the UK invited to meet The Princess Royal, on Monday, September 28.

"It was a memorable experience," said Ted. "The Princess Royal was perfectly charming and was interested to hear about the history of Chamberlain Transport and its part in the Palletforce distribution network."

Chamberlain Transport is one of 86 highly successful transport companies who are shareholders in the Palletforce network.

This year the network opened a new £30million distribution Hub, in Burton-upon-Trent, which is now the UK's single largest palletised distribution Hub and is leading the way in logistics and distribution - using efficiency and new technology to improve business.

Chamberlain Transport was set up by Gerald and Rachel Chamberlain in 1954 - joined by their son Ted four years later.

Since then the company has grown in size and reputation from humble beginnings, and is still a truly 'family run' business today.

During The Princess Royal's visit she was shown a number of vintage trucks - including a 1963 KV ERF from Chamberlain Transport.

Simon Chamberlain, who is the company's Managing Director, said: "We were delighted to be able to take our vintage truck down to the Hub - and The Princess Royal enjoyed the opportunity to see this vehicle close up."

Palletforce Chief Executive Officer Michael Conroy said: "This was a momentous occasion. The opening of the Hub is the culmination of years of hard work and is a tribute to the commitment of members and staff."

"At a time when other businesses are downsizing, we are travelling forward and flying the flag for British entrepreneurial spirit."
